Historic Kidney Swap
This week, surgeons in the Washington, D.C. area performed an unprecedented 26-person mix-and-match kidney transplant. The massive transplant was done through a "paired kidney donation" program, where one incompatible donor/recipient pair are matched with another; the donor of the first kidney gives to the recipient of the second and vice versa.
